Social Media Fail

We all have a Facebook/Twitter/whatnot account these days. Yes it's a whole lot more convenient - to stay in touch, to complain, to ask a question... especially to that brand that you like.

I'll be honest. I work in social media and I handle Facebook pages for brands on a daily basis. And I'll tell you one thing. When I say Social Media Fail - I mean the fans. NOT the companies.

Why do I say so? There's like a billion "concerned netizens" or what I'd like to call internet vigilantes who won't think twice to help 'share' or 'like' something especially if it's going to defame a brand.

Whether it's real or not... they don't really care.

Do they help spread it like wildfire when the brand achieves something? No. Thank you, negativity biasness!

So, why do they do it?

Well, it makes them feel good. They're doing something nice. Helping someone out. Or so it seems.

These are the same people who carry their own shopping carrier bags on Saturdays only but ask for extra plastic bags (just in case it rips) on a regular day OR those who complain "Hah? 20cents for a plastic bag ah? Aiyoh why so expensive???"

With the help of social media... customers (or fans, in this case) are taking the "Customer Is Always Right" to a whole different level.

Heck, even some of them demand that they get special stuff just because they bought a car, or visit that restaurant often.

Seriously?

And if you visit that eatery often enough, and are nice to the wait staff, I'm pretty sure they'll be giving you an extra perk here and there. It's really all about give and take you know.

Oh and these fans hide behind a facade (fake profiles - it's as clear as day) making noise like empty vessels while DEMANDING for an answer... not like it was their problem to begin with *shrug*

These people are just looking around for a cheap and quick fix for self satisfaction.

So the next time you see something happening on Facebook, think twice... or trice before you repost it. How is it really going to help?

Grow up. Get a life. Stop hiding behind your monitors.

Geez!
